Angels Are No Fools

They know what they want and persist to get it,
intransigent on their views.
They believe they know best which way the wind blows thus and so.

Appalling upstarts, feeling superior 
for being apart from humanity’s ills,
believing that freedom can only be found under tombstones. 

Funny, as they still engage in frantic debate, 
Ironic, as they still feel the need to differentiate
through their sorted standing.

And, while they may appear as otherworldly,
their own prayers never destined to be said aloud,
there is one refuge common to them all.

After so much sober introspection into their own hearts,
they are all relieved to find they can still laugh,
can still shake with laughter,
while recalling banana peel antics, 
dogs in dresses,
and many such things,
humor without harm.
