Benediction. by Linda Imbler

Take this and drink from it-

Her mortal source of spiritual healing
at times wears purple vestments.
Giving messages of hope and salvation
to those who will listen.

For this is my blood-

She's found the intermediary
that will make it all clear
At first glance found honorable.
Then,
Outrageous headlines,
He,
caught somewhere he never should've been,
doing something he never should have done,
conducting himself with other adults
in a less than pastoral way.
His sin now made public.

The blood of the new and everlasting covenant-

She then wonders.
Knows the spirit in which the blessings were received.
Now questions
the spirit in which the blessings were offered.

It will be shed for you and for all-

A loss of faith.
A questioning of the spokesperson really.
This is the flaw.
Human envoys cannot attain supernatural excellence.

So that sins may be forgiven-

Thus,
We’re so much better off
questioning the institution
and not the concept.
We must continue the search
for the sacred relationship,
For the soothing of the soul,
For the mystical knowledge needed to live life unselfishly
and with estimable purpose.

Do this in memory of me.
